Waylon's Experience:

I'm the founder of Elephant Journal, which at 22 years old is now the world's largest mindfulness community online, and author of two books, “Things I would like to do with You” & “It’s Never too Late to Fall in Love with your Life.”

Things I would like to do with You is in its fifth printing.

Locally, this book is (we’re told by the owner) the best-selling book, ever, at our local independent Boulder Book Store. That’s a famous old indie bookstore, and a big honor.

This book was rejected for distribution by Ingram, the monopoly of book distribution, and we’ve never pushed it on Amazon, though it’s generally available there. Thanks to our Kickstarter fans and benefactors, our first edition of 2,000 books sold out fast.

Thanks to our Elephant readers and Instagram fans, the next 25,000 sold steadily. And now, thanks to you, we continue to reprint what has become, it seems, a timeless, yet timely classic. It has now sold 30,000+ copies.

I recently published my second book, about mindfulness, activism, eco-responsibility, and a mindful everyday life.

My success has been made possible by tons of hard work, but also by Mentors. ~ Waylon Lewis

7 Reasons not to work with Waylon as your Book Mentor:

  1. As a Mentor, Waylon will be as helpful as possible but he won't sugarcoat the process, which can be tough! If you want rainbows and unicorns, head elsewhere. Here, you'll find a wise old elephant.
  2. Writing a book is hard. Really hard. Waylon will not be your writing accountability coach. You have to do the writing yourself. But he can help direct or redirect you, and offer you resources.
  3. Waylon will not find you a printer or an editor. He will not make phone calls for you or field questions from your team. He's here to offer his experience and advice, including some connections.
  4. Waylon will not be able to hold your hand if you're understandably confused about the process with your printer while independently publishing. This process is difficult and takes a village...and your own dedication and research. He will offer pointers, and hard lessons learned so you can have an easier time of it.
  5. Waylon will not offer line edits on your book. He'll read sections and offer insights, suggestions, and an editor's perspective. But he is not your book editor. He cannot edit your book in an hour or two or three..!
  6. Waylon will not manage or take over your social media account in order to help you serialize your writing or share your book. He will offer insights and experience about how to best use and grow your social media community to serve the writing and publishing of your dear book.
  7. Waylon will not work with disorganized slackers...he'll expect you to have completed the self-paced course included in the coaching package.
